Our initial school opening plan is now available at mpsaz.org/reopen. With safety, choice and the Mesa Public Schools Promise as our guiding principles, our initial plan includes three excellent learning possibilities for our students: in-person learning, modified in-person learning and remote learning. We encourage you to spend time on the website so you are fully informed to choose the best learning option for your family when enrollment opens by July 1. We will release our refined final plan July 14, after stakeholder feedback virtual meetings with staff, parents and students. Thank you for your patience as our 170-person Opening of Schools Task Force spent thousands of hours analyzing community feedback, consulting education and health experts, poring over data and developing a plan that puts our students, staff and families first. Our initial plan incorporates recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Arizona and Maricopa County health departments, Arizona Department of Education, state and local guidelines, and more than 27,000 survey responses from Mesa parents, students and employees. We are pleased to announce that later this fall, all students will have a district-provided laptop for learning, thanks to a generous $6.5 million donation from the City of Mesa CARES program. This donation supplements technology purchased with voter-approved bond monies. As a reminder, this is our initial plan, which will be reviewed at our virtual stakeholder feedback meetings. Our final plan will be introduced July 14. It is important to remember that the COVID-19 situation in our state and nation is constantly changing, and Mesa Public Schools will continue to be flexible and prioritize the safety of our community. We are grateful for your continued support. Our students, staff and families have risen to the challenge of these uncertain times.
