At least two people were killed and eight others injured following a shooting at a nightclub in Greenville, South Carolina, early Sunday (July 5) morning. Two deputies were driving by the Lavish Lounge around 2 a.m. when they noticed a disturbance. As they responded to the scene, they heard gunshots and called for backup.
Greenville County Sheriff Hobart Lewis said that the shooting happened during a concert and that there was a "very, very, very, large crowd" inside when shots were fired. He estimated there were about 100 people inside the tiny venue at the time.
Authorities do have anybody in custody but have identified two possible suspects after viewing videos posted on social media.
"There's a lot of shell casings inside," Lewis said. "Everything is turned over. There are a few chairs in there, food on the floor, some bottles busted. You can tell somebody left in a hurry. There are some pretty large amounts of blood."
After the police evacuated the building, they found four injured people inside who were rushed to the hospital. Investigators later learned that six others were taken the hospital in personal vehicles.
Nightclubs have not been granted permission to reopen, and officials are checking to see if the Lavish Lounge was granted an exception.
