Plane Makes Emergency Landing After Hail Causes Nose Cone To Cave In

Severe storms forced a Delta Air Lines flight from West Palm Beach, Florida, to LaGuardia Airport in New York City to make an emergency landing at another New York City airport. 

The Airbus A319 was struck by hail and sustained major damage to its nose cone, which houses the plane's radar equipment. Photos of the aircraft showed the cone completely caved in.

It was initially reported that the damage was caused by a bird strike, but investigators found dents on the wings and tail of the plane and determined that a hailstone caused the damage to the plane's nose.

The plane landed safely at JFK Airport, and nobody on board was injured. The jet was pulled from service, and the FAA has launched an investigation into the incident.
