Trump: 'More White People' Are Killed By Police Than Black Americans

July 15, 2020

When was asked why black people are still dying at the hands of law enforcement, Trump inaccurately argued that white Americans are dying more often at the hands of police brutality than Black Americans.

“And so are white people. So are white people,” Trump told CBS reporter Catherine Herridge. “What a terrible question to ask. So are white people. More white people by the way. More white people.”

Multiple studies have confirmed that Black people are killed in police encounters at higher rates than white people. Black men are 2.5 times more likely to be killed by police than white men, according to a University of Michigan, Rutgers University and Washington University study released last year, per USA Today.

The study also found that about 100 Black men and boys per 100,000, and 39 white men and boys per 100,000, are killed by police during their lifetimes.
