Mystery art has been popping up around Suffolk, England and word on the street is the Ed Sheeran is the man behind the pieces.

As noted by Metro.co.uk, shops and pubs in the neighboring area have been hit with mystery art from an artist who goes by the name The Hat. While some pieces have been donated to charities and business, other pieces have found their way to residences' doorsteps. Why does the internet believe Sheeran is behind The Hat? Besides the local affiliation, the star's own work, which he's previously shown off via Instagram, looks similar in styling to the pieces making their way around Suffolk. More specifically, one cafe called The Neathouse received a piece of art and a note directed at owner Vashti Mouncer. In the accompanying letter, the owner was encouraged to "stay safe," alongside a website called "Who is The Hat?"

Despite the buzz, a spokesperson for the star denied to the outlet that the singer is indeed The Hat. In fact, the elusive artist clams to be a 62-year-old man, who has a newfound love of art, via The Hat's website. Still, local residents are talking and Sheeran’s name keeps getting tossed into the mix. Shop manager Sara Allerton recently found two paintings called Disquiet and Brexit. "There’s been a lot of circulation among customers about whether it’s [Sheeran] or not. People talk," she said.
