Joey King Kicks Off Her 21st BDay Celebrations, Dishes on ‘Kissing Booth 2’

Happy (almost) birthday, Joey King! Ryan Seacrest helped kick off the actress’ 21st birthday on-air on Thursday, July 23.

Seacrest surprised Joey with her own club-themed Zoom background and her reaction was priceless.

“Things are moving so quickly,” Joey admitted. “I’m now going to be 21 in the next week and then I look at people who are like 15, 16 years old and I’m like that literally felt like yesterday.”

To celebrate, Joey shared she’s 100% going to use that ID.

“My big plan is there’s a really good donut down the street, it’s an orange creamsicle donut, I’ve got a plan to go get that and then I dunno I’m maybe going to flash my ID at Target and grab a bottle of wine and be like, ‘Excuse me, this is legal! Can I please take my Chianti?’” she added. “[And] maybe the beach? Probably not, I don’t know.”

Despite being in quarantine though, Joey plans on celebrating.

“Don’t be mistaken, the wine will be flowing from the start of the day till the end of the day,” she joked. “I don’t care, it’s my birthday!”

The actress also gets to celebrate with the release of Netflix’s The Kissing Booth 2, the sequel to the hugely popular rom-com.

“I think this movie just hit a sweet spot of people’s happy button,” Joey shared. “A movie like it hasn’t come out in a long time and we pay homage to those amazing '80s rom-coms.”

So what can viewers expect from the second film?

“[My character Elle is] in her senior year, her boyfriend Noah went off to college at Harvard and he has all these new beautiful friends who she’s feeling a little insecure about so Elle is kind of going through the feelings of jealousy for the first time,” Joey shared. “But, along with all that, there’s a guy who transfers into her school senior year who is a smokeshow and also just the sweetest human being and gives Elle a big pillar of strength.”
