Sometimes songs just come together effortlessly. That's exactly what happened the night that Mitchell Tenpenny, Devin Dawson, Ernest Keith Smith, and Kyle Fishman got together for dinner.
In a recent interview with Cody Alan, Mitchell dished the details behind writing his single "Broken Up," and left Cody thinking that every country song should end with a steak dinner.
"We wrote it in about 30 minutes," shared the "Drunk Me" singer. "When I hum melodies, I just spit words out that don't mean anything. I think I said, "It's been...ahh…broken up…" or something like that, and there was something to play off of "broken up." Like, you are still kind of messed up about it but also broken up."
"I literally got in front of the piano and started singing it," reveals Mitchell. "Like, every line as we wrote it. It ended up being the vocal we used for the record."
"And then we went and ate steak and forgot about it," laughs the country star.
