So long Peggy Sue. The barbecue restaurant at Snider Plaza is now closed.

Its temporary closure in early spring has turned into a permanent one. Now the company that owns Snider Plaza is looking to sell the location, CultureMap Dallas reported Thursday.

"But as we knew it, it's gone and I hope I can find the next reincarnation," said Jerry Washam with Ralph Porter Company, which owns the plaza. He thinks the pandemic may have played a part in the closure. A study by Yelp found that more than half of the restaurants that temporarily shut down due to COVID-19 closed their doors for good.

Barbecue aficionados on Facebook first noticed the closure in late July. Peggy Sue BBQ's website now reflects the closure and the business's phone number has been disconnected.

Peggy Sue first opened in 1958 as Howard and Peggy's but closed in the 1980s, according to its website. The restaurant was revived in 1989 before it was sold in 2020, reports CultureMap. The restaurant also closed in January for renovations.

The barbecue joint routinely made best barbecue lists across DFW and was known for its chopped or sliced brisket, ribs, and its 1950s interior.

While Peggy Sue now joins an ever-growing list of local restaurant closures, Washam is hopeful that another local barbecue restaurant will take the Snider Plaza location and said "we've got some good prospects who want to keep it Texas."
