Gen. Charles 'CQ' Brown Becomes First Black Chief Of Staff Of The Air Force

August 10, 2020

Gen. Charles “CQ” Brown was sworn in as the Air Force chief of staff last week, making history as the first African American general to lead a branch of the U.S. military. “Today's possible due to the perseverance of those who went before me, serving as an inspiration to me and so many others,” Brown said at Thursday’s (8/6) ceremony before acknowledging his predecessors including, in part, the Tuskegee Airmen, their commander Gen. Benjamin O. Davis Jr. and one of the last surviving members of the unit, Brig. Gen. Charles McGee. “It is due to their trials and tribulations in breaking barriers that I can address you today as the Air Force chief of staff,” he added.
