Mitchell Tenpenny has participated in and has been influenced by a range of musical artists and genres, but one he hasn’t “Broken Up” with is country music.

In a recent phone interview with Cody Alan, Mitchell name-checks some of his favorite artists who have helped pave the road to his musical career.

“I mean, I think everyone inspires me,” says the “Drunk Me” singer. “I grew up with harmonies from the Eagles, Michael Jackson melodies, down to even *NSYNC and Backstreet Boys, and, then, of course, country music with the story.”

“Growing up, Brooks & Dunn were everything, Randy Travis, and even Taylor Swift. I mean telling the story to me that’s what country music is,” Mitchell continues before also revealing that battled his teenage angst with “rock-n-roll, hardcore screaming.”

“I love stories, but I think we have to grow. Technology grows, sounds change. That’s what I love,” says Mitchell. “I’m inspired every day by how much access we have to music, but how much different music there is with new sounds.”
