Fort Worth Chickens Find New Homes After Taking A Tumble On I-30

After a wild ride on a DFW freeway, 25 chickens have new homes.

About 250 live chickens in crates fell off the back of a livestock truck on Interstate 30 on Friday. Whoever was driving the chickens left them behind because police did not find a vehicle when they arrived to the spill, reports CBS DFW.

Police officers were able to corral the 25 survivors and hand them off to Fort Worth Animal Care and Control to find them new homes. The chickens were relatively OK and were only missing a few feathers after the ordeal, the shelter said on Facebook.

The shelter had no luck placing the survivors, which were all hens, with a rescue group so they decided to ask the public for help. Adopting the chickens came with one requirement: the hens are pets, not food.

The hens were placed in new homes in a matter of hours after the shelter put out a call on Facebook. While the chickens are already spoken for, there's plenty of dogs and cats still up for adoption.

UPDATE: WOW - we are overwhelmed by the response of adopters for our surviving chickens! At this time all are accounted...
