Lightfoot Dispels Rumors About Police-Involved Shooting That Led To Looting

August 12, 2020

In an interview with 107.5 WGCI, Mayor Lori Lightfoot spoke candidly about the police-involved shooting that was wrongfully reported on social media to have involved an unarmed minor, which sparked citywide chaos in Chicago on Sunday night (August 9).

“Here’s what happened,” she began, before explaining what occurred when police arrived on the scene after receiving a number of “detailed” 911 calls about an armed man, who was 20-years-old, in the area. “He took off running. He shot at the police and they returned fire. […] He was shot in the shoulder. Not killed. So, this was not a shooting of a 15-year-old unarmed boy. That didn’t happen.” The Chicago mayor went on to discuss the citywide looting that took place after the incident, her stance on police officers wearing body cameras while on duty and President Trump.
