Salt Lake City Police Suspend Use Of K-9s On Suspects

August 14, 2020

After disturbing video of a police dog repeatedly biting a Black man kneeling with his hands up was published by the Salt Lake Tribune earlier this week, Salt Lake City Police say they will no longer use K-9 dogs on suspects.

The city’s Mayor Erin Mendenhall also said the police department has suspended the officer who commanded his dog to bite Jeffery Ryans during the April 24 incident, which occurred when he was in the backyard of his home smoking a cigarette.
