In a candid new interview with Refinery29, Lili Reinhart shared her difficult experiences during the COVID-19 stay-at-home orders. Calling this year the "most emotional" of her life yet, Reinhart told the outlet she "couldn’t see the light. I was like, ‘I feel like I’m dying." She compared the past five months to a “black tunnel [that] was never going to end.”

She compared her experience with depression to a void and shared her personal journey out of that void over the past few months.“It was f***ing rough, and there’s no other way through it than just through it," she said. "I’ve seen a lot of people when it comes to heartache and grief and breakups, and they try to get that void filled with sex, with coke, with food, with drinking, [but] the void is still there. I took the road less traveled and just dealt with my s**t. I had to face my own pain head-on.”

Reinhart also turned to therapy for help and guidance during this difficult time, telling Refinery29 that her therapist told her she was suffering from a "withdrawal from love" in quarantine, as well as going through a recent split with her on-again-off-again boyfriend Cole Sprouse. “The last couple of months have probably [been] the most emotional few months of my entire life,” Reinhart said. “And my therapist [told] me, ‘Your body’s going through withdrawal from love. You’re used to having this exchange of happy chemicals between you and the person that you’re with.’ In moments of my life, I have dropped every ounce of pride that I had just to be like, 'Love me. Please take the pain away for a day, a second, an hour,' just so I can feel that fix again.”

The 23-year-old actress also addressed her upcoming poetry collection, Swimming Lessons, which is set to come out in September. She warned against reading too much into her poems and not to take them all literally. “I felt the need to write that because I was scared — and I am scared — that people are going to try and create their own idea of what my love life looked or looks like,”she explained. “I’m not saying, My boyfriend f***ed another woman. I’m saying, I felt betrayed.”

Reinhart has another exciting project coming out soon, as well. She starred in and produced the film Chemical Hearts, which is set to drop on AmazonPrime on Friday (August 21).
