Taylor Swift Unveils All The Easter Eggs In Her 'Cardigan' Music Video

Swifties can relax as Taylor Swift has decided to unveil all the Easter eggs hidden in her new video for "cardigan" off her surprise folklore album.

On Monday (August 17), the pop titan, 30, dropped an installment of Vevo Footnotes, a four-and-a-half minute featurette with a breakdown of all her subtle (or sometimes ultra-secret) gems. Most notably, the beginning of the clip reveals that the photo of the man in her cabin is none other than her grandfather, Dean, who landed on the beaches during the Battle of Guadalcanal in WWII. The clip goes on to showcase a reference to the star’s favorite number (13) and a personal painting of a white house that she created at the top of quarantine.

The video for "cardigan" was written and directed by the superstar, so it goes without saying that Swift has some interpretation to offer about some of the clip’s nature setups. While the forest represents "the evergreen beginning of a relationship where everything seems magical and full of beauty," the ocean symbolizes the "isolation and fear involved while a relationship is breaking down."

Elsewhere in the video, Swift details the origin of her collaboration with Aaron Dessner of The National on the LP, admitting that they met a year ago when she went to one of their Brooklyn shows. "I started asking him about what their writing process is. He told me they work remotely a lot because they all love all over the world," the singer said of the collective whose members are spread around the globe. "When quarantine hit and I found myself wanting to write, I reached out and he was really wanting to create too. It's been one of the most effortless collaborations and I'm very lucky to have met him."
