Back in May, Kehlani shared her latest album It Was Good Until It Wasn't, which featured a collaboration with Tory Lanez on "Can I." As the singer/songwriter prepares to release a deluxe version of the album, Lanez is being replaced on the deluxe, and Khelani is explaining why.

After news about Megan Thee Stallion being shot broke, in addition to Tory Lanez's involvement in the incident, the rapper's friends showed up to support her, including Kehlani. Not long after the shooting, she tweeted that Lanez would be taken off their song on the deluxe version of her album to replaced with a new verse, while also voicing her support for Meg. Kehlani explained, "full transparency cuz i believe in that with my following, his verse is still on the song, the video is solo. new verse on the deluxe."

She added in another tweet, "i stand with women, believe women, & i love my friends. if that’s something that turns you off from me or makes you no longer support, bless you forreal you have no reason to have ever supported me in the first place.. i’m not your cup of tea."

Now, Kehlani is opening up about her decision during an interview with Tone Kapone on Chicago's WGCI. She explained, "As someone with a large platform, as someone that people look up to, as a woman that makes other women feel safe and empowered, people were asking me, 'Are you gonna keep somebody on it who doesn’t necessarily make us feel safe or empowered as a woman?'"

She went on to say, "And not only that, this situation was involving someone that I [am] extremely close to, so I just felt like on some loyal s***, and on some do the right thing, you have to be responsible. Absolutely I’m changing up the record," adding, "This is not an industry friendship. That's really my friend and someone I say I love you to."
