The legendary chanteuse took to social media this morning (August 19) to share that her new project, a compilation album titled The Rarities, would be on the way. Carey also posted the black-and-white artwork for the album, which depicts the pop star striking a sultry pose.
“This one is for you, my fans. It’s to celebrate us, and to thank you for years of pure love and support,” she tweeted. “I am so grateful to you. THE RARITIES album is out October 2.”
The Rarities will mark MC’s eighth compilation record of her career and will feature previously-unheard material, demo versions and unreleased tracks. Additionally, the includes 17 live performances from Carey’s ‘90s run at the Tokyo Dome, where she delivered a myriad of her greatest hits, like “Dreamlover," “Hero," “Emotions," “Vision of Love,” and “All I Want for Christmas Is You.”
The first single from The Rarities, arriving this Friday (August 21), will be an previously-unreleased song called “Save the Day” featuring Lauryn Hill.

Carey hinted at the project back in June when she celebrated the 30th anniversary of her eponymous debut album, Mariah Carey. "I had planned to share some surprises & rarities with you,” she teased on Instagram at the time, “but prefer to postpone them to a later date."
The Rarities isn’t the “Shake It Off” musician’s only surprise she has in store this year. As previously reported, Carey will be chronically her life in a forthcoming tell-all memoir, titled The Meaning of Mariah Carey, due out September 29.
