On Friday (August 21), Lori Loughlin was sentenced to two months in prison for her involvement in the college admissions scandal. Her husband, Mossimo Giannulli, was sentenced to a slightly longer sentence of five months in prison.
While Loughlin and Giannulli are sure to be relived their legal woes are almost over, many critics voiced anger over the couple's short sentences. On an Instagram post sharing news of Loughlin's sentencing from Entertainment Tonight, one user commented: “They should have 4 years each for the college kids that should have gotten in – ugh," which others jumped in on to share their agreement.
The comment caught the eye of Loughlin's Fuller House co-star and close friend Candace Cameron Bure. She added a short comment of her own in emoji form, leaving a simple sad faced emoji in response. Though Bure's reply to the Instagram comment was short, she's spoken up in defense of Loughlin in the past, as well. "We are family, and we stand by each other and pray for each other, and we’ll always be there for each other," Bure said on the Today show back in 2019.
Loughlin has largely remained mum on the situation since being charged with fraud last year. During her virtual hearing on Friday, however, Loughlin broke her silence while entering her guilty plea. “I made an awful decision. I went along will a plan to give my daughters an unfair advantage in the college admissions process," she said. "In doing so, I ignored my intuition and allowed myself to be swayed from my moral compass. I thought I was acting out of love for my children, but in reality, it only undermined and diminished my daughters’ abilities and accomplishments.”
In addition to her two month prison sentence, Loughlin will have to pay a hefty fine, serve community service hours and be under supervised release.
