On Thursday (August 20), drivers on Nebraska's I-80 discovered an abandoned military tank on the side of the road.

The large military tank was left sitting on a parked trailer, which can be seen in photos shared to social media. The NSP Carrier Twitter account posted a photo of the tank, writing "To the trucking company that left this [tank] on the side of the interstate in central Nebraska: We would like to talk to you! I’m sure [the Department of Defense] would as well."

According to NBC's local news outlet KLKN, Nebraska State Troops were able to identify markings on the abandoned vehicle. The markings revealed the tank belongs to the South Dakota National Guard. The vehicle is part of the South Dakota National Guard 211th Engineer Company. After being utilized in a training mission in California, the vehicle had been on its way back to South Dakota when it was left on I-80.

The South Dakota National Guard contracted a trucking company to move the tank from California to South Dakota. NSP and South Dakota National Guard are now working together to return the vehicle, as well as locate the driver who abandoned it on the side of the road.
