Katy Perry Brings Back The Bops On New Album 'Smile'

Katy Perry returns with back-to-back bops on her new album.

On Friday (August 28), the singer-songwriter celebrated the long-awaited release of her sixth studio LP, Smile. Perry's 12-track effort is jam-packed with everything from uplifting dance anthems to emotional ballads that'll have Katy Kats' cry-singing from start to finish, including previously-released tracks "Never Really Over" and "Harleys in Hawaii."

Calling to mind the sentimental urgency of One of the Boys on songs like "Resilient" and “What Makes a Woman” and grooves blissfully reminiscent of Perry's Teenage Dream and PRISM eras on “Not the End of the World” and "Daisies,” Smile is as much a tenderhearted ode to self-endurance as it is a commanding dance floor getaway.

"I would describe my new album as hopeful, resilient, joyful and my own journey of coming through hell," the singer told Billboard of her new project. She added, "The song of mine that best sums up my life right now would be probably either ‘Smile’ or the last track on my album, which is called ‘What Makes a Woman,’ because I am going through very, very feminine things right now."

As fans know, Perry’s new album comes just days after the star gave birth to her first child, daughter Daisy Dove, with fiancé Orlando Bloom. As it was, the 35-year-old celebrated the release from the hospital bed. “IT’S HERE! IT’S REALLY HERE! 🙃 I finally got back my smile!” she captioned an animated announcement clip. “Hope this record puts one on your face 🙂 #SMILE 🙂 IS OUT EVERYWHERE NOW! LOVE YOU GUYS SO MUCH ENJOY 🤡♥️ (sent from my hospital bed lol).”
