Last week, ABC revealed when The Bachelorette will return in a new promo for the upcoming season. And, yes, the promo does feature Clare Crawley instead of Tayshia Adams. As Bachelor Nation fans know, it's been rumored that Adams took over as the bachelorette mid-season after Crawley fell hard for one of her contestants.

While fans were excited for more information about the upcoming, many were put off by the new promo image. The poster features 39-year-old Crawley leaning against a wall holding a rose while a man pulls on a sock in front of her. The promotional image is a recreation of the poster for the 1967 film The Graduate, which follows a young man during his affair with an older woman, Mrs. Robinson, before he falls in love with her daughter, Elaine. As the oldest Bachelorette in history, fans found this promo to be a dig at Crawley's age.

Former Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay also voiced her distaste for the poster. “I didn’t like it,” she explained in. a recent interview. “I didn’t understand it, and I don’t think we should be questioning what the ad is and that’s what we are talking about more than we are about her and her season, ’cause I’m excited for Clare. I’ve been a big proponent of her. I’m not sure how all of this goes down with all the rumors that are going around, but I am excited for Clare and for her to have this moment.”

After hearing more about The Graduate, which Lindsay had never seen before, she added: “That’s the movie? OK, I’m watching it tonight. What? Now I’m hot. I gotta call somebody. I did not realize that. OK, now I’m a little bothered.”

ABC has yet to confirm that Crawley officially stepped down mid-season. In addition to the controversial promo image, the network did release a press release about the upcoming season , however, it makes no mention of the behind-the scenes drama. Instead, it focuses on Crawley's journey from Bachelor contestant to The Bachelorette. “Clare had women across America cheering from their living rooms when she famously stood up to controversial BachelorJuan Pablo [Galavis]during the memorable 18th season finale ofThe Bachelor,” the release reads. “Clare left the season with a new sense of self-worth and a determination to never settle for anything less than the unconditional love and respect that she deserved. Follow her passionate, wild ride to find her soul mate and the explosive turn of events that will have all of Bachelor Nation talking.”

The Bachelorette returns on October 13, at 8 p.m. ET. on ABC.
