The San Antonio Zoo is offering free admission to first responders and health care workers as part of its Frontline Heroes Appreciation Month.
Doctors, nurses, law enforcement, firefighters, and EMTs in Texas can visit the zoo for free during September if they show the proper identification at the gate. Four guests with the frontline worker can also receive 50% off the standard admission price on the day of their visit.
“Our frontline heroes now more than ever work tirelessly and risk their lives daily to ensure that our community is safe,” San Antonio Zoo’s President and CEO Tim Morrow said on the zoo's Facebook page. “Offering them and their families the opportunity to reconnect, relax and enjoy the zoo is our way of saying 'thank you.'”
After September 18, Frontline Heroes can also enjoy the first two weeks of Zoo Boo!, the zoo’s family-friendly daytime Halloween event with trick or treat stations, costume contests and more.
This isn’t the first time the zoo has made efforts to honor frontline workers during the pandemic. In May, they joined with the Tim Duncan Foundation to provide zoo gift baskets to staff at the San Antonio Food Bank, University Health System and Methodist Healthcare.
Since reopening, the zoo has implemented changes to make the experience safe and enjoyable for all. Daily hours of operation have been adjusted, and a Drive Thru Zoo has been added on Fridays and Saturdays.
