President Trump kicked off his visit to Kenosha, Wisconsin — a city that has been the site of civil unrest since the police shooting of Jacob Blake last month — on Tuesday (September 1) despite Wisconsin's governor and Kenosha’s mayor previously asking him to put off his visit so the city could heal.
Trump’s visit came hours after he defended Kenosha shooting suspect, Kyle Rittenhouse, who has been charged with six criminal counts, including first-degree intentional homicide, after allegedly killing two and injuring another during a night of protests in Kenosha. Trump will reportedly visit an emergency management center, meet with police and tour a section of the city damaged by rioting that followed the shooting of Blake.
While the president said on Monday (August 31) that he did not plan to meet with Blake's family during his visit, he told reporters on Tuesday, "I don't know yet. We'll see."
