Captain Terry Hollis has been chosen for the inaugural 2021 Fight for Air Climb Firefighter Calendar. The Nashville firefighter will be one of the firefighters featured by the American Lung Association.
Every year, Nashville firefighters run up hundreds of stairs at the 505 building downtown, in full gear weighing more than 45 pounds, as part of the Fight for Air Climb. Firefighters take part in the event in cities across the country. Due to the pandemic, the climbs this year will be virtual.
The American Lung Association said the Fight for Air Climb has extra meaning to firefighters because they are more susceptible to lung disease due to exposure of smoke, gases, and chemicals while in the line of duty.
"I climb the Lung Association's Fight For Air Climb every year to raise awareness of lung disease, which a lot of firefighters suffer from after years of inhaling smoke fighting fires," Captain Hollis told News Channel 5. "I'm grateful that the Lung Association's calendar raises money to help support firefighters' lung health."
The calendar, which is available for pre-order, will honor the brave individuals who risk their lives protecting their communities while also raising awareness for the impact of lung disease.
In addition to featuring firefighters from across the country, the calendar will also provide fire safety tips and information about how fires can affect lung health. All proceeds from the 2021 Fight for Air Climb calendars will go toward the American Lung Association's mission of improving lung health and preventing lung disease through education, advocacy, and research.
