Former Phoenix Suns star and NBA Hall of Famer Steve Nash has landed a new job.

The Brooklyn Nets have named the eight-time NBA All-Star as the 23rd head coach in the franchise's NBA history.

Sean Marks, Brooklyn's General Manager, said in a statement that there were many different candidates for the job and that the choice wasn't easy. "In Steve we see a leader, communicator and mentor who will garner the respect of our players. I have had the privilege to know Steve for many years. One of the great on-court leaders in our game, I have witnessed firsthand his basketball acumen and selfless approach to prioritize team success."

He added, "His instincts for the game, combined with an inherent ability to communicate with and unite players towards a common goal, will prepare us to compete at the highest level of the league."

Nash played for the Suns from 1996 to 1998 and from 2004 to 2012. He was a two-time NBA Most Valuable Player and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2018.

Most recently, Nash was a player development consultant with the Golden State Warriors, contributing to two NBA Championship teams and four consecutive trips to the NBA Finals.
