Joe Biden and his wife, Jill, traveled to Kenosha, Wisconsin on Thursday (September 3), to meet with the family of Jacob Blake, the 29-year-old Black man who was shot in the back by Kenosha police officer Rusten Sheskey last month.

“The family was grateful for the meeting and was very impressed that the Bidens were so engaged and willing to really listen,” Blakes’ lawyer, Benjamin Crump, said of Biden’s hour-long meeting with Blake’s father and siblings. Biden also reportedly spoke on the phone with Blake, who is paralyzed after being shot in the back seven times.

Biden’s trip marks his first campaign visit to Wisconsin, a critical battleground state that Trump narrowly won in 2016.
