Thanks to some veterinarians at the University of Florida, a 660-pound alligator is recovering from a leg injury, according to NBC Miami on Tuesday (September 8).
Last week, Bob the 38-year-old gator was taken from his home at St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park to Gainesville for a medical evaluation. His right rear leg was hurting, and a medical exam was needed for the reptile.
NBC Miami reported that the alligator farm staff had to strap the gator to a wooden board, tie his jaws closed and cover his eyes with a towel.
Bob was taken in for radiographs when he arrived at the University of Florida's College of Veterinary Medicine.
"We evaluated Thursday for lameness in [Bob's] right rear leg: He's responsive to zoo staff today, on pain meds & will soon start antibiotic therapy. Here he is being transported to our radiology area," the college said in a Saturday (September 5) tweet.

NBC Miami said a preliminary evaluation revealed evidence of osteomyelitis, a bone infection, in Bob's leg. The website added that the school's team will continue monitoring the gator's recovery.
