Eminem's scary home break-in while the rapper was home could have turned out so much worse if the intruder had succeeded with his intentions. The home invader, identified as Matthew David Hughes, broke into the house while Marshall Mathers was sleeping with the intention of killing him.
According to the Detroit Free Press, Mathers first thought it was his nephew who had entered his home before discovering the stranger who had broken in, and in a preliminary examination at Macomb County District Court, officer Adam Hackstock said while on the stand, "When Mr. Mathers asked him why he was there, he was told by Mr. Hughes that he was there to kill him."
Since the break-in back in April, 26-year-old Hughes has been in custody at Macomb County Jail on a $50k bond. He is charged with first-degree home invasion and malicious destruction of property. During his most recent court appearance, Eminem did not attend the proceedings and watched remotely, according to the Detroit Free Press. An arraignment for Hughes as been scheduled at the Macomb County Circuit Court for September 28 and he's facing felony charges.
Hughes broke in to Eminem's gated residence in early April, and reportedly got into the house by smashing a kitchen window and climbing inside during the early hours of the morning. Security guards, who were stationed at the front of the property, came to apprehend the intruder after the rapper had discovered him. Thankfully, Eminem was not harmed, and authorities were then called to arrest Hughes.
