Starting next week, some Miami-Dade County coronavirus restrictions will be eased, including the curfew, NBC Miami reported on Wednesday (September 9).
Mayor Carlos Gimenez announced these changes in a Wednesday virtual conference. He said these changes will go into effect on Monday, September 14.
The curfew will begin at 11 p.m. instead of 10 p.m., the mayor said. It will still end at 6 a.m.
"A special exception will be made for Thursday night's Miami Hurricanes game at Hard Rock Stadium. Gimenez said anyone out after curfew who attended the game can show their ticket if they are stopped by police and they won't receive a curfew violation," according to NBC Miami.
While outdoor attractions like Zoo Miami and Jungle Island will be allowed to reopen, indoor attractions will remain closed. Playgrounds at attractions will stay closed, too.
Mayor Gimenez said county parks can stay open until 10 p.m. with night lights on. Baseball and softball can continue as long as restrictions are in place, such as facial coverings for catchers.
"Businesses that rent bicycles, scooters and mopeds will also be allowed to reopen, but the businesses must supply sanitizing wipes to users, Gimenez said. Tour boats and charter buses will also be allowed to reopen at 50% capacity," NBC Miami reported."
These measures came after Mayor Gimenez sat down with county leaders, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and local medical experts about the status of COVID-19 in the area.
Mayor Gimenez said there has been a "downward trend" of infections and hospitalizations in the county. He also encouraged people who visited the county Labor Day weekend to get tested for COVID-19.
"We cannot get complacent, particularly now that Labor Day has passed and we know that spikes can happen after the holidays," he added.
