Miami-Dade County will be excluded from reopening its bars next week as the Florida government eases back COVID-19 restrictions, according to NBC Miami on Thursday (September 10).

Thursday night, Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation Secretary Halsey Beshears issued an emergency order at the command of Gov. Ron DeSantis. The measure rescinded an executive order that prevented the sale of alcohol at bars.

Starting Monday, September 14, Florida bars will be allowed to reopen at 50 percent capacity, according to Beshears.

Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez reaffirmed that bars in the county will remain closed.

"Even though the State of Florida is planning to allow bars to open again, Miami-Dade County’s bars will remain closed by emergency order until further notice," Gimenez said on Twitter. "Our County continues to monitor this evolving situation as it works to tamp down COVID-19 cases."

The mayor even suggested that bars and nightclubs may not reopen until there's a COVID-19 vaccine.

NBC Miami said Mayor Gimenez hinted at the possibility of nightclubs reopening before bars.

“Nightclubs are something you do dancing and drinking and etc.,” he said. “I don’t believe that’s what happens at a strip club.”

Mayor Gimenez also rolled back some COVID-19 restrictions this week for the county. Starting Monday, the Miami-Dade's curfew will begin at 11 p.m. and several outdoor businesses and attractions can reopen, including Zoo Miami, tour boats, bike and scooter rental shops and more.
