Miami Woman Wins $2 Million With $10 Publix Scratch-Off Ticket

A Miami woman became much richer after a lucky visit to Publix, Local 10 reported on Tuesday (September 15).
Patricia Burns won $2 million after purchasing a $10 scratch-off ticket at the store. She claimed her prize from the Cashword scratch off game, according to Florida Lottery officials.
The 41-year-old woman will be taking home a lump-sum payment of $1.475 million.
"Burns bought the scratcher at the Publix at 1776 Biscayne Boulevard in Miami. The store gets a $4,000 commission for selling the ticket," Local 10 reported.
Since 2019, the Cashword game allows players the chance to win one of 10 top prizes of $2 million.
"Florida Lottery says that scratch-off games make up about 75% of their ticket sales and contributed more than $1 billion for the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund in the last fiscal year," according to Local10.
Another Miami woman won big from a scratch-off ticket. Dora Maceda bought a $5 scratch-off ticket from a Walmart Supercenter on Coral Way and won $1 million, Local 10 also reported on August 27.
Maceda was playing the Gold Rush Classic Game and took home a lump-sum payment of $750,000, according to lottery officials. The Walmart Supercenter got a $2,000 bonus commission for selling the ticket, the website added.
