Two Broward County men claimed top prizes thanks to scratch-off tickets, Local 10 reported on Tuesday (September 29).
Joshua Smith, 53, scored $1 million from the “Fastest Road to $1,000,000” ticket. The Fort Lauderdale resident decided to take home a lump-sum payment of $790,000, according to Florida Lottery officials.
He bought the $30 winning ticket from the Stop N Shop at 2300 Andrews Ave. in Fort Lauderdale. Local 10 said the store got a $2,000 commission.
Pompano Beach resident Paolo Ferorelli, 58, won $1 million from the “Gold Rush Special Edition.” The 58-year-old, like Smith, also took home a one-time, lump-sum payment, but for $700,000.
Ferorelli’s winning ticket was purchased at S Liquors, located at 1501 Northwest 2nd Avenue in Boca Raton. The store also got a $2,000 commission.
“Earlier last week, it was revealed that another Pompano Beach man won $1,000 for life from a gas station quick-pick in Oakland Park,” according to Local 10.
The news station also reported a Miami woman winning big from a $10 scratch-off ticket she bought at Publix. Even though she scored $2 million, she took a lump sum of $1.475 million.
State lottery officials said scratch-offs make up about 75% of ticket sales and generated over $1 billion for the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund in the last fiscal year.
