Suspect charged in ambush shooting of LA County deputies
September 30, 2020
This morning Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva announced that the man who ambushed and shot two sheriff's deputies in Compton has been arrested and charged.
The suspect was identified as 36-year-old Deonte Lee Murray, who was arrested two weeks ago after an armed carjacking in Lynwood. Remember that massive search and standoff?
Murry, who has connections with multiple gangs, has been charged with attempted murder and is expected to be arraigned later today.

Authorities said the prior carjacking was not connected to the shooting of the two deputies. However, Captain Kent Wegener said that the pistol Murray tossed while being chased before the Lynwood standoff was the same gun he used to shoot the deputies.
Luckily, both of the deputies who were shot survived and have since left the hospital. Listen to Steve Gregory's full report below:
Press Conference: Sheriff Villanueva to Provide Update on Compton Ambush Shooting InvestigationSheriff Villanueva and Captain Wegener will provide updated information regarding the circumstances surrounding an ambush shooting of two on-duty deputies. The shooting occurred Saturday evening, September 12, 2020, at the Metro Blue Line Station, located at 275 North Willowbrook Avenue, Compton, where the two deputies were seated in a marked patrol car. The suspect surreptitiously approached the passenger side of the vehicle and fired multiple rounds through the open window. The deputies both suffered gunshot wounds to the upper torso. Despite being critically injured, the deputies valiantly cared for each other's wounds and safety, communicated their location and plight to others, and tactically prepared for another attack. The suspect fled the scene, and a monetary reward was offered for information leading to their arrest and conviction. The deputies were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Remarkably and thankfully, they both lived and are recovering from their injuries.
