Need a little more cash this holiday season?

UPS is looking to hire more than 660 employees around Detroit, working from October 2020 through January 2021, the delivery giant announced Monday (October 5).

Open positions include drivers, package handlers and more, WXYZ reported Monday. Drivers of tractor-trailers and package cars will start at $21 per hour, drivers of personal vehicles will make $21 per hour and 57.5 cents per mile, and package handlers will start at $14.50 per hour.

The hundreds of seasonal positions coming to Detroit is part of thousands UPS plans to hire nationwide, ramping up for the holiday rush. This year, the rush comes when many people will turn to online shopping as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

UPS announced in a press release last month that it expects to hire more than 100,000 seasonal employees this year.

“We’re preparing for a record peak holiday season. The COVID-19 pandemic has made our services more important than ever,” Charlene Thomas, Chief Human Resources Officer, said in the release. “We plan to hire over 100,000 people for UPS’s seasonal jobs, and anticipate a large number will move into permanent roles after the holidays. At a time when millions of Americans are looking for work, these jobs are an opportunity to start a new career with UPS.”
