SZA is setting the record straight on that suspicious Drake verse.

Last Friday (October 2), “God’s Plan” emcee let it slip on 21 Savage and Metro Boomin’s song “Mr. Right Now” that he and the R&B goddess once had a thing together way back when

“Turn your phone off, take your clothes off /I’m a sav', but I f—k her to a slow song/ Said the nail lady went and did her toes wrong/ Said her last man was always playin' Drake songs,” he starts on his verse, then raps, “Yeah, more concerned with blowing up than growing up/ Yeah, said she wanna f—k to some SZA, wait/ 'Cause I used to date SZA back in '08/ If you cool with it, baby, she can still play.”

Well, the lyric eventually made its way back to the “Hit Different” songbird, who confirmed that, yes, she and Champagne Papi really were an item—but made a very important clarification.

“So It was actually 2009 lol 🙃.. in this case a year of poetic rap license mattered 🥴lol I think he jus innocently rhymed 08 w wait. Anybody who really knows me and was around during this time can confirm.. it’s all love all peace 🤝💎💫 ,” she tweeted Sunday night (October 4).

The year is important here, as fans pointed out that SZA would have been underage (17) at the time when she dated Drake, who would have been at least 22. She addressed this too, adding: “I just didn’t want anybody thinking anything underage or creepy was happening. Completely innocent. Lifetimes ago.”

Alas, now let' bask in our collective sadness over what could’ve been hip-hop’s next power couple.
