Netflix’s Selena series officially has a release date!
On Tuesday (October 6), the streaming giant announced its forthcoming project, Selena: The Series, will premiere on the platform on December 4. The series, which focuses on the international Latina singer Selena Quintanilla, comes 25 years after her untimely death.
As fans know, the Tejano superstar tragically died from blood loss and cardiac arrest after being fatally shot in March 1995.
Actress Christian Serratos (Twilight, The Walking Dead) stars in the titular role alongside Jane The Virgin actor Ricardo Chavira, who will portray Selena’s manager father, Abraham Quintanilla Jr., in the film.
Earlier today, the network accompanied the release date announcement with the official trailer for the highly-anticipated series. “Do you trust your father?” a male voice can be heard at the start of the clip, to which a female voice responds, “Yes.”
According to Netflix’s synopsis for the film, Selena: The Series follows the “story of the unforgettable Selena Quintanilla, from her childhood to her rise to fame, along with the difficult and heartbreaking tough choices she and her family make to hold on to love and music.”
The Quintanilla family is also involved in the Campanario Entertainment-produced project, with Abraham and Selena's sister, Suzette, both listed as executive producers.
“Selena will always have a lasting place in music history and we feel a great responsibility to do justice to her memory. With this series, viewers will finally get the full history of Selena, our family, and the impact she has had on all of our lives,” Suzette said in a previous statement. “We are excited to partner with Campanario and Netflix to give fans a never-before-seen glimpse at our story and highlight why Selena will remain a legend for generations to come.”
