New murals are scattered across Forth Worth with a friendly reminder for residents to vote in this year's presidential election.
Mike Brennan, president of Near Southside Inc., stated, "It's a much more engaging way to capture the attention. It shows that we're all in this together and that's our civic duty."
Though Brennan is excited about the murals, they're also a badge of shame.
Forth Worth was one of the ten cities picked for the nationwide mural project because of the consistently low voter turnout.
Both the mayor of Fort Worth and the mayor of Dallas were elected by less than 10% of registered voters.
Tiff Massey, the artist behind the murals, stated, "A lot of the younger generation and even some of the older generation, hey feel like a lot of if is pointless. We should have our voice and it does matter and it does count. It's just really an important project in general, for everybody."
Each mural has a QR code next to it that will take residents to a Facebook or Instagram site that has information on how to register and vote if they hold their phone's camera up to them.
Brennan stated, "We know they're reaching people because we see folks sharing photographs of the murals."
