The Fort Lauderdale Air Show will return in late November after months of delay due to the coronavirus pandemic, Local 10 reported on Thursday (October 8). The new dates for the show are November 21 and 22 over Fort Lauderdale Beach. The show was originally scheduled from May 2 and 3 but was postponed as the virus rapidly spread across the United States.
"The U.S. Air Force has scheduled all four of its fighter jet demonstration teams to perform at the show – the F-22 Raptor, F-35 Lighting II, F-16 Viper and A-10 Thunderbolt II," the website said.
Show officials said safety measures has been implemented for the show, including limited tickets for premium viewing venues, more hand-washing and sanitation stations in these areas and mask rules. They are also working with Fort Lauderdale city officials to encourage social distancing and safe viewing on the beach.
"Our goal is to provide a safe environment so everyone can enjoy one of America’s great air shows," air show co-chair Bryan Lilley. “We can’t thank the City of Fort Lauderdale enough for working together with us to host the event in 2020 and provide a boost to the suffering tourism economy."
The stage for the air show will be two miles wide and 500 feet high, according to Fort Lauderdale City Manager Chris Lagerbloom. He noted spectators can watch from various locations to help promote social distancing, such as a boat, the beach and their backyard.
