The Great Smoky Mountains' world famous suspension bridge is getting a major addition this fall.
The Gatlinburg SkyBridge will reportedly be adding the "SkyTrail," a 0.3-mile scenic walkway along Crockett Mountain, which will connect both sides of the bridge, FOX 17 News reports.
Initial reports indicated that a "SkyWalk" event was scheduled to take place this weekend, however, it has since been postponed due to weather and will now take place during the weekend of October 17-18. The Smokies have yet to announce an official opening date for the SkyTrail, but it is expected to open this fall.
"Due to forecasted inclement weather in the area this weekend, the SkyWalk event has been rescheduled to Saturday, October 17th - Sunday, October 18th," Gatlinburg SkyLift Park announced on its official Facebook account on Wednesday. "The SkyLift Park will still be open Saturday, October 10th and Sunday October 11th, weather permitting. We are sorry for the inconvenience, but let’s now look forward to this spectacular performance scheduled for October 17th-18th at the SkyLift Park."
SkyBridge recently underwent renovations, which included adding double the amount of glass panels at its center to provide visitors with a view from below the bridge, FOX 17 News reports.
