Johnston County Schools Reopening To More Students Full-Time

More Johnston County Schools students will be returning to in-person classes full-time this week.

Kindergarten and pre-K students will be in the classroom five days a week beginning Monday as part of Plan A of reopening schools amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, ABC 11 reports. Students had previously returned for a few days a week earlier this month as part of a phased reopening.

More Johnston County Schools students are scheduled to return to full-time in-person classes next week. First and second grade students will be allowed to return to the classroom on October 19, while grades 3-5 can return on October 26.

Johnson County Schools will keep its virtual program as an alternative option through the end of the fall 2020 semester.

Granville County Schools will move all grades into Plan B of its reopening plan, which will include partial in-person classes, on Monday.

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services reported 1,719 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, which brings the Tar Heel state to a total of 231,471, ABC 11 reports. The department has also reported five new COVID-related deaths on Sunday, bringing the state's total to 3,770.

Data from Johns Hopkins University shows there have been 7,719,254 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the United States since the pandemic began, ABC 11 reports.
