A video showing people trying to catch a koi fish with their bare hands at the Dallas Arboretum has gone viral on Reddit, and the garden called the incident embarrassing.

The user Buttons107 recorded two adult men and a child lying on their stomachs with their arms in the Arboretum's koi pond. A group of five or six other people look on while the men grab at the fish.

In the 18 second video, neither the men or the group standing behind them are wearing face masks despite the Arboretum requiring that all visitors wear one.

In an anonymous interview with the Dallas Observer, the woman who recorded the video said she was horrified at what she saw, especially since none of the employees told the men to cut it out.

"(An employee) was just cleaning the koi pond at first and we all were just staring at this family horrified, but nobody wanted to go up to them because they never know how people will react these days," the woman said.

The video was uploaded last week to the Reddit groups Dallas, trashy, and I am a total piece of s**t where other users were also horrified by the men's inconsiderate behavior.

One Reddit user from Denton wrote

We visited this past weekend and I was shocked at the number of families that allowed their kids to put their hands in the water to mess with the Koi, as though it were a petting zoo. Be better, folks, and have a little class. It’s not that hard to know you shouldn’t try to grab the fish out of the pond at a gorgeous arboretum like we have in Dallas.

In a statement, the Arboretum called what happened "very distressing" and 'it was embarrassing that this event happened on our property."
