The New Orleans Saints may hold future home games at LSU's Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, the team announced Tuesday (October 13). Fans have not been allowed to attend home games at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium this season due to the city's COVID-19 restrictions.

"Our game operations staff is meeting with LSU officials today to discuss potentially hosting future Saints home games at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge," said Greg Bensel, VP of communications for the Saints. "LSU has been gracious and enthusiastic regarding hosting our future games and we very much appreciate their partnership."

Bensel said the team has also discussed the potential move with the NFL and that the organization is aware the team is exploring this option.

"Obviously, our overwhelming preference is to play our games in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome with partial fan attendance but there has been no indication from the city on when, or if, this might be approved," he said.

In the team's last two home games, 750 fans consisting of family and friends were allowed to attend. The Saints had previously asked New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell to allow more fans into the Superdome, but so far their request has not been approved.

According to WDSU, the city of New Orleans issued a statement after talks between the Saints and LSU were announced.

"While the Saints' request for a special exception to the city's COVID-19 guidelines remains under consideration, allowing 20K people in an indoor space presents significant public health concerns," the statement read. "At present, no NFL stadium in the country with a fixed-roof facility is allowing such an exception. We will continue to monitor the public health data, but cannot set an artificial timeline for how and when conditions may allow for the kind of special exemption being requested."

The Saints' next home game is scheduled for October 25 against the Carolina Panthers.
