Some cities have seen rapid economic growth and long-term prosperity this year.

Wallethub released a study of the fastest-growing cities in America, and Tempe landed in the top 30. The site compared 515 cities of varying population sizes based on 17 key measures of both growth and decline.

The website states, "The South and West currently seem to be attractive places to move, as the U.S. Census Bureau reports eight of the 15 cities with the largest population gains between 2010 and 2019 were located in the South and five were in the West."

Tempe came in at number 25 on the list with an overall score of 64.27. The city ranked number 26 in sociodemographics and number 127 in jobs and economy.

Seven other Phoenix-area cities place in the top 100 of the list.

Here are the seven other Phoenix-area cities and their ranks:

  • Surprise was number 42
  • Mesa was number 66
  • Avondale was number 69
  • Scottsdale was number 73
  • Gilbert was number 77
  • Peoria was number 90
  • Phoenix was number 93.

To determine the list, Wallethub compared 17 metrics in two different categories. These metrics included population growth, growth in share of college-educated population, job growth, unemployment rate decrease, increase in number of businesses, and foreclosure rate decrease, among others.
