The state medical examiner has reportedly confirmed that human remains found in September belong to a missing woman.

The examiner confirmed the remains belong to Rebecca Michelle Fellows, 40, who was reported missing in Hope Mills in July, ABC 11 reports. Initial reports indicated that the remains were believed to belong to Fellows last month prior to the medical examiner's confirmation on Wednesday.

Two individuals were arrested in relation to the investigation of Fellows' case last month.

Beverly Ann Harris, 36, and Miguel Angel Navarro, 33, were both charged with first-degree murder, first-degree rape and conspiracy in relation to the investigation into the disappearance of Fellows (also known as Rebecca Michelle Garcia-James), ABC 11 reports.

The two arrests were announced by the Hope Mills Police Department, Hoke County Sheriff's Office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation in September, ABC 11 reports.

Investigators located the remains confirmed to belong to Fellows, who was last seen overnight in Hope Mills on July 8-9, in September.

"We have located human remains that we believe to be Rebecca, however, we still need to confirm the identity," the police department said in a release sent to ABC 11 at the time of its findings.

Fellows, 40, was last seen getting into a 2018 Dodge Challenger at around midnight on July 9, 2020, WRAL reports. Investigators also listed a gray Honda Civic as a vehicle of interest in July.

Residents in the Pioneer Point and Decker Heights neighborhoods were asked to check their door bell and security cameras for any suspicious activity that took place between 12:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. on July 9, 2020, WRAL reports.

The investigation is ongoing.
