Shelby County Revises Restrictions On Halloween Activities

Earlier this week, the Shelby County Health Department issued guidance on Halloween activities and celebrations. On Thursday, however, they revised some of the restrictions they had previously put in place.

The biggest restriction officials announced on Tuesday was that parties, carnivals, festivals, parades, and haunted houses were not going to be permitted this year. They have since said some of these events will be allowed with advanced approval from the health department.

Previously, health officials also said door to door trick-or-treating was not advised as it makes social distancing more difficult. Now, according to WMC 5, they have provided tips on how to make it safer: Avoid direct contact with trick-or-treaters, give treats outdoors if possible, set up a station with individual treat bags that children can pick up, wash hands before handling treats, and wear a mask.

People should still continue personal protection measures issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the health department said. If you feel sick or have come into contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19, stay home. Wash your hands often and sanitize surfaces regularly. Facial coverings are still one of the best ways to limit the spread of coronavirus, and with Halloween and the holidays coming up, why not find some themed masks to celebrate?
