A lagoon is coming soon to Leander.

It'll be part of a development project called Leander Springs that the city announced last week. The 78-acre property valued at $1 billion is expected to have a 4-acre man-made lagoon surrounded by 10-acres of boardwalk.

The project also includes a hotel, space for offices, restaurants, and shopping, and land to build 1,600 homes. The development will be built near state highway 183 and Brushy Creek.

“This is the type of project that doesn’t come along very often, and, for Leander, it’s one more aspect of making us the best town in Central Texas, possibly the whole state of Texas," Mayor Troy Hill said.

The lagoon will be open to the public once its built, but, according to the city, there will be a private area for people who live there and hotel guests. Leander residents will receive discounts on general admission, but additional details about pricing have not been released.

Before anyone starts planning their spring break in Leander, it'll take a while before the development is built. Construction isn't expected to start until next year. The first phase of the project is expected to be completed by December 2023, including the lagoon and commercial space.
