The woman who was found alive in a Detroit funeral home in August after officials pronounced her dead has died, an attorney for the family confirmed.

Timesha Beauchamp, 20, died “peacefully” on Sunday (October 18) at Children’s Hospital, Geoffrey Fieger announced in a news release issued Monday (October 19). She had been transferred from Sinai Grace Hospital.

“She died as a result of massive brain damage that was suffered when Southfield paramedics wrongly declared her dead, and failed to provide her much needed oxygen,” the release states. “Instead, she was sent to a funeral home which then discovered that her eyes were open, and that she was alive.”

Beauchamp’s family filed a lawsuit against the paramedics.

Two paramedics who treated Beauchamp in August were suspended after the incident.

Southfield Fire Department paramedics declared Beauchamp dead in August after attempting to revive her from an apparent seizure after about 30 minutes. Beauchamp was in a body bag for nearly two hours before a funeral home employee found she was still alive. She was in critical condition after the incident.

“Our whole family is devastated,” the family said in a statement. “This is the second time our beloved Timesha has been pronounced dead – but this time she isn’t coming back.”
