Luke Combs got a legendary assist during his live performance to kickoff the 2020 CMT Awards on Wednesday night.

Combs opened the award show with a performance of his hit single "1, 2 Many" before being joined by Country Music Hall of Fame duo Brooks & Dunn, who are also featured on the song's bridge and final chorus.

When the duo joined Charlotte native on stage, Kix Brooks handed Combs a beer and said, "you've got some catching up to do, Luke. I've got one for ya!" Combs proceeded to shotgun the beer on stage before the trio finished the song.

“For me it’s like a total dream come true every time I’m with these guys at all so I mean it’s really awesome. I’m thankful that they are here to do it with me and I’m gonna have fun, for sure,” Combs told Country Now prior to Wednesday's performance.

"1,2 Many" is featured on Combs' 2019 album, "What You See Is What You Get," which is set to be re-released as a deluxe edition album on Friday (October 23).

Combs is expected to have a big night on Wednesday with three traditional CMT Awards nominations -- tied for the most along with Ashley McBryde, Dan + Shay, Kelsea Ballerini, Sam Hunt and Thomas Rhett.

The 2020 CMT Awards are being hosted by McBryde, Kane Brown and "Modern Family" star Sarah Hyland.
