An investigation is underway by Lewisville police after a geologist found human remains.
The geologist dug up a human skull and "a few other bones" in a field on the south side of the Lewisville Lake Dam around 2 p.m. on Tuesday near the 2300 block of E. Business 121 and Sam Rayburn Tollway.
The field where the remains were found is part of the Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area (LLEA). Lewisville Lake is a reservoir on the Elm Fork of the Trinity River.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office responded alongside the police. Investigators determined that the remains appeared to be those of an adult, but it isn't clear how or when the individual died.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner plans to send out anthropologists to the scene.
A spokesperson for the Lewisville Police Department stated that it does not have any active missing persons cases so it will reach out to surrounding areas such as The Colony and Carrollton to see if they do.
Officials stated that they expect to learn more about the human skull and bones once the medical examiner's office does a further study on the remains.
Searchers will return to Lewisville to look for additional bones.
