Authorities are seeking the public’s help identifying two individuals wanted for allegedly stealing two pieces of luggage at the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, including a suitcase that carried a woman’s ashes.
The Cleveland Police Department released a photo of the man and woman on Tuesday (October 20).
Doris Mooren’s family arrived at the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport on Saturday (October 17), planning to hold a memorial service for Mooren on Monday morning (October 19).
Mooren, of Northfield, died earlier this year at age 92. She wanted to be buried in the same northeast Ohio cemetery as her mother, so her family flew in from California with her ashes.
“If they could give it back, we’d be most grateful,” Harold Karaka, Mooren’s son-in-law, said to News5Cleveland earlier this week. He explained that American Airlines confirmed that the suitcase was scanned and arrived in Cleveland on a flight around 7 p.m. on Saturday. He also said the suitcase contains Mooren's death certificate.
Releasing a photo of the duo alleged to have taken the family’s luggage, the Cleveland Police Department said the pair “fled the scene using the RTA train.”
The Cleveland Police Department asks anyone with information to call Detective Zverina at 216-623-2532.
